Potrero Chico Mexico

I was climbing down in Potrero Chico from November 21 - December 2. Turkey day consisted of Chile Rellenos and tequila :-) ... The weather was cooler and less stable than normal which limited climbing on a few days, but luckily there are some great hikes to do as well as some true local culture in nearby Hidalgo for entertainment... The climbing here is good quality limestone with routes as long as 2000'. The scene is very relaxed and climber friendly. We also took a full rest day and travelled to some very nice hot springs about 30 miles away which helped the joints and injuries. With all the
unstable weather, there were lots of cool clouds swirling about the walls most days

Next I'll be travelling to Tennessee and North Carolina to visit my folks. After that, off to Costa Rica...

Zion Canyon

After climbing so much in Joshua Tree, my upper body needed a break (it's tough getting old ya know...), so I headed to Zion Canyon for 2 days of hiking. The weather was perfect, fall colors were still around and there were very few people. Good stuff! Pente really liked the Zion campground... lots of places to scratch and roll in the dirt. I'll be heading home tomorrow for a few days before I head South to El Potrero Mexico. Life is good! :-)

Joshua Tree, CA

After the madness of Vegas it was great to arrive in the desert climbing dirtbag mecca known as Joshua Tree... Here you can live cheap, climb lots and generally detox from the crazy world we live in. I've been going to Josh since '83 and still love it... Great climbing, great weather, beautiful landscapes, super fun people and a laid back scene. This trip I was also fortunate enough to learn of the desert sushi fest, which was a great time... I've been here 9 days now and will likely begin heading NEast Sunday or so... In the meantime, it's a rest day in Josh and many calories are in order...

Halloween in Vegas

Went for a mountain bike ride during the day and then headed down to the Vegas strip for Halloween... Rode the roller coasters, enjoyed cold beverages and took in the scene... Things didn't really get lively until after 11pm and never let up... I finally escaped the strip about 3:30am and headed South to the quiet of the Mojave desert...

Tuesday, October 30

Well, I've been away from internet access for the last 10 days, so here's an update on the "Everyday is Saturday" tour...

I spent October 20-26 in Canyonlands, mostly in the Indian Creek area climbing desert towers and other crack climbs with my friend Dana.

The weather was really nice, trending warmer as the week went on. We climbed all of the Bridger Jack towers which was great fun and also hit a few of the shorter crags. We also took in a hike to some Anasazi ruins for a rest day.

Having the camper in the desert is the ticket; ice cubes for margaritas, ice cream, fresh fish for dinner, showers etc. Really roughing it! :-)

After Canyonlands we headed for the Kolob region of Zion National Park to climb "Sunlight Buttress" on 10/27. The climb was pretty good, although less than stellar quality combined with logistics issues (published route info is incorrect... you need TWO ropes to get down...) kept us from reaching the summit, but a good time was still had by all.

Next, we headed to "fabulous" Las Vegas for a couple of days of climbing at Red Rocks before Dana had to fly home to Boulder. We enjoyed two quiet days climbing in Black Velvet Canyon doing "Sour Mash" and "Epinepherine". Great long routes!

Now I'm hanging out at the patio of Whole Foods in West Vegas... chowing down on some 'healthy' lunch and taking a much needed rest day. So far the trip has been great and it's been really good to get out of town and out of the 'rat race'.....

Friday, October 19

Okay, so it's 10:00pm on a Friday night and I'm still at my desk at MNav (loser??), tying up loose ends on my last day at work before heading out for adventures in the desert... Well, at least I'm having a cold beer while I modify product development documentation... Tomorrow I'll hit the road and the adventure begins!! I'll miss my friends at work and in Boulder, but the road and the unknown are calling to my soul...... more later - dv
